Yin and Yang of The Garden Education
Working in the school garden brings incomparable joy to my life. I wrote a short article titled ” Precious Time” in my garden newsletter for our kids. It is about my impressive experience with our kids in the school garden. I posted it below because I wanted to talk about why I wrote it.
As the garden flourishes and many classes visit there, I become busy and sometimes feel overwhelmed. Kids get active and ask many questions in the garden. I usually enjoy listening to what they say, but to be honest, I sometimes feel too tired to listen to them.
Bringing the whole class to the garden is lots of work, and I must clean up afterward. The class activity needs to be well-planned, yet the weather sometimes bothers us. Weekend isn’t a complete weekend if you do the garden, etc.
With all the hard things, the feeling I described in the article below is the center of my heart. It is just like a place where I return.
Precious Time
” I love working with you all in our school garden. You might not know, but I am incredibly impressed with your questions, conversations, and behaviors happening there.
Someone asked me, “Why do we have to pull out the weeds?” with a sad face, and another showed me full of beautiful tiny rocks in his hands and said, “I’m collecting diamonds!”. I also enjoy seeing the excitement when you find wasps, snail shells, etc.
You make the world I see more beautiful, pure, and funny. Thank you for the precious time to spend with you in the garden!”
